Palace-Gardens
The Brief:
Refurbish and redecorate the public spaces of an exclusive mansion block
The Location:
A private road over-looking the Royal Palace in Kensington, west London
The Client:
A committee of residents within the mansion block
GD&L Design:
In response to the ‘first class’ experience, we designed individual ‘pods’ with curved decorative walls giving each client the feeling of personal space. Ribbed wood added texture and bespoke brass framed mirrors and pendants added glamour. We wired the stylists’ equipment through the back of joinery leaving the socket under the mirrors free for clients to use. To maximise the client experience, we added a service button for drinks or food. Floor stewards respond to the service lights, leaving the stylists to continue working their magic.
We also designed a large central island with a bespoke bronze frame and book-matched marble top and down-stands. These two pieces of joinery were then replicated throughout the rest of the salon. To keep the salon feeling fresh and bright all year round, we installed a large glazed wall with doors to a newly created courtyard. External and internal green walls, along with other-worldly wallpapers, were installed to ensure the salon is an escape from the everyday.
